Overview
The class Sauropsida includes vertebrates traditionally recognized as reptiles (such as turtles, lizards, snakes, mosasaurs, plesiosaurs, pterosaurs, and dinosaurs), as well as birds (which evolved from dinosaurs). Note that birds were traditionally recognized as class Aves, which rendered class Reptilia paraphyletic when birds were not included as reptiles.
