Echinodermata

Echinodermata

Overview

Phylum echinodermata is the only animal phylum with 5-point (pentaradial) symmetry and includes sea stars, sand dollars, urchins, crinoids, and sea cucumbers. Other primary characteristics include having a complete digestive tract with organ systems and a calcareous endoskeleton. Most echinoderms move around by using hydrostatic 'tube feet' which act as little suction cups to move and sense their surrounding environment. Echinoderms are strictly marine with a variety of feeding modes including detritivores, herbivores, predators and filter feeders.
